Ford has announced the 2023 F-150 Rattler, which the brand boasts brings “distinctive styling” and “rugged off-road capability” to the entry-level F-150. The model is an effort to cover the full spectrum of F-150 trims with off-road-minded offerings.

The F-150 isn’t the bestselling pickup for no reason. The newest version of Ford’s light-duty full-size pickup is a fantastic vehicle across the board, the XL trim included. The Rattler is the base model’s version of the Raptor and Tremor off-road packages. The Rattler takes the base-model XL and adds a slew of parts to make it better on the dirt, rocks, or wherever owners choose to point it.

The majority of the upgrade package borrows from the higher-trims’ FX4 kit. Most importantly, it includes an electronic locking rear differential, which not only helps in wheeling circumstances but also in tricky, low-traction towing. The truck also gets hill descent control, and the base shocks get replaced with special off-road units designed to increase stability off pavement. Upgraded all-terrain tires round out the Rattler’s mechanical upgrades.

Ford also altered the F-150′s appearance ever-so-slightly to differentiate the Rattler from other F-150s. A dual exhaust and painted 18-inch aluminum wheels are the big highlights, though there are unique Rattler-badged fender vents and rattlesnake graphics around the vehicle. The Rattler’s cabin features onyx seats with bronze accents that are designed to complement the similar desert-themed colors on the instrument panel.

Pricing for the 2023 Ford F-150 Rattler has yet to be announced. Expect more information as we get closer to its fall on-sale date.
