For the 2022 model lineup, Polaris is going heavy on tech across the range, and that includes youth offerings. The RZR 170 EFI is officially dead, being replaced with a new 2022 Polaris RZR 200 EFI that comes with some of the most interesting and innovative safety tech we’ve seen in the powersports market, and a nice little boost to capability as well.

On the performance front, the 2022 RZR 200 EFI arrives with a larger 180cc engine and a dual A-arm front suspension. The design improves travel by about 40 percent to 7 inches.

Increased power and suspension travel make the RZR 200 EFI more capable than the old 170.Polaris

The real magic for the new 2022 Polaris RZR 200 EFI is in the technology. A new Ride Control system allows parents to set speed limits and geofencing restrictions using the Polaris Ride Command app on their smartphone. Now you can give the kids a little more freedom to roam without worrying they are going to end up where they shouldn’t be. The new setup also includes what Polaris is calling “Helmet Aware Technology.” Essentially there is a small RFID tag you install on a helmet, and the RZR 200 won’t start unless it senses there is a tag in the machine. It won’t stop kids from chucking a helmet in the passenger floor and starting the rig, but it does at least make sure they have a helmet with them.

When you buy a RZR 200, Polaris includes two helmets and one Helmet Aware beacon. Bundling helmets means new riders have proper safety equipment, and it removes that extra cost from the parents. A smart move all around. Finally, to keep the little ones as comfortable as possible regardless of how fast they grow, an adjustable seat and tilting steering wheel are standard equipment.

From a visual and build quality standpoint, Polaris has swapped all the lights over to LED units, and the mesh doors of the old RZR 170 have been trashed in favor of standard hard doors. With a starting price of $5,899 the cost of the smallest RZR jumps by $500, but the inclusion of all the new features more than justifies that cost increase.
