Dragon—it’s the first thing my brain can muster up when I throw open the shop door and see our new long-term test unit stretched across the middle bay. From its sharp eyes and slender hips to its nearly 14-foot-long frame, the 2021 Polaris RZR Pro XP 4 Premium Edition looks ready to spit fire. Turns out it does just that thanks to its 181 hp, turbocharged parallel-twin engine.

Polaris hasn't changed much on the Pro XP 4 lineup for 2021. Dimensions, cargo capacities, interior room, and base components all stay the same across each submodel. You still get the stronger XP chassis and drivetrain. The plush 20-inch suspension travel is still there. The radical flat-folding rear seats are still included. And you're still held in place by the wonderful six-point retractable harnesses on the front row. Polaris has honed in on what each submodel customer wants however. The 2021 Premium model now includes the impressive Ride Command 7-inch touchscreen navigation and entertainment system hooked to a six-speaker Rockford Fosgate stereo. The rear-mounted subwoofer is optional.

The RZR Pro XP 4 Premium’s base MSRP rings up at a hefty $30,299, up $2,300 from the outgoing 2020 model thanks to the addition of some fancy technology for 2021. Our test unit has the optional roof, which bumps the price up another $729.99. Good news though: This lofty price now nets you nearly every standard option Polaris offers except for its Dynamix 2.0 active suspension bits, which can be found on the Ultimate model. It’s worth noting that Polaris still forgot to include what we feel should be a basic safety component offering: a rearview mirror. That’ll run you an additional $119.99.

Will it make the cut as a true trail weapon or does its considerable length subject it to gravel road duty? Stay tuned to UTV Driver as we prep for some winter and spring family trips in this four-seater Premium RZR Pro XP.
