The 2021 Polaris Ranger XP 1000 Trail Boss has been a willing dance partner since it arrived late last year. But it wasn’t perfect. Over the months of testing, reviews, and comparisons, a few rubs kept coming up. From the lackluster doors to the overall lack of equipment when compared to similarly priced models in our test fleet, the Ranger felt like there was room for improvement.

Thankfully one of the biggest strengths of UTVs is the ability to upgrade and modify them to your heart’s desire. With that in mind we decided to see if a pile of new parts would take our Ranger XP 1000 Trail Boss to the next level of comfort and capability. We put in a call to Polaris and went on a serious shopping spree. In total, we have nearly a dozen new parts to strap into our rig. Expect to see how-to installation guides as well as our thoughts and impressions on all these new parts over the coming weeks.

Among some of the key additions coming to our Ranger XP 1000 Trail Boss will be glass front and rear, a roof to keep the rain off of us, and we are absolutely going to swap out those soft doors for hard. We also snagged a winch, because every good rig needs a winch. We are still picking and choosing some of the other parts coming our way, so there could be some surprises in store over the next couple of weeks.

After our new and improved rig is assembled, we are going to get multiple members of the UTV Driver team back into the driver’s seat. It is time to figure out which upgrades are worth the cost, which you should order from the dealer to start with, and maybe figure out which accessories could be skipped to save you some cash.

Keep it locked here on UTV Driver over the next several weeks to make sure you don’t miss any of the fun. And if the utility-focused Ranger is not your ideal ride, don’t worry. We plan on doing accessory upgrades for more rigs in our fleet too. If you have any specific upgrades or UTVs you think we should test, feel free to hit us up on social media.
