Australian Football League star Tom Hawkins’ life is irrevocably linked with two things: the game by which he makes his living and the cattle farm that is his family legacy and his retirement plan. Hawkins, who has been a mainstay of the Geelong Cats roster for a decade and a half, is a third-generation AFL player. His granddad and his dad were both AFL players, and his old man put in a 182-game career with the ‘Cats. That commitment meant that, by AFL rules, Tom was eligible to play for the club without having to wait it out in the draft.

Alongside football for Tom’s family has always been farming. Growing up, he worked with his dad on their lush cattle plantation, and today he runs the farm when he isn’t on the football field. To get around the farm and handle the rigors of a working life, Tom and his family rely on their Can-Am Defenders.

The farm features a long, central laneway that connects the spread’s fields, and moving between them is best done in a UTV. Multiple fields means miles of fence to check and repair, which is where the Can-Am really comes into its element. Check out the video at the link below for a closer look at how this Down Under star athlete makes use of his Can-Am’s talents.
