Outdoor recreation added $563.7 billion to the US economy in 2022, according to a recent report by the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable first reported in Powersports Business. According to data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the impact of outdoor recreation was more than $1 trillion if you count back to 2017.

Motorcycles and ATVs, the segment that includes side-by-sides, made up $11.5 billion of that activity in 2022, trailing RVing and boating and fishing. That’s a wild figure by anyone’s measure, no doubt helped by banner years in 2021 and 2022 as the world emerged from the pandemic with money and a renewed interest in being outside.

It will be interesting to see how the segment fares in 2023 and 2024, as world economic forces have gotten decidedly less certain in the last 12 months.
