Upfit and OMI Announce New Hybrid System

Hybrid and electric off-road vehicles are a thing, and have become more popular in recent years as more players enter the game. Upfit UTV, part of the Fox Factory family, just announced its new OMI Fusion-Drive system, which offers optimized performance for powersports, commercial, and fleet applications.

Upfit is working with OMI on the project, and said the Fusion-Drive system offers superior range and throttle response, making it excellent for defense and heavy-duty work use. Justin Smith, Upfit’s CEO, said, “OMI Fusion-Drive lets us deliver game-changing performance for off-road vehicles. The combination of power, adaptability, and advanced technology ensures we’re meeting the needs of even the most demanding applications.”

The company’s design lets owners install the hybrid system without modifying the vehicle’s chassis. Upfit works with OEMs to develop the system, and said that its pre-integrated design makes installation easier. Upfit and OMI design and build the products in North America and said that the project aims to make scaling the systems faster, cheaper, and more reliable.

The Polaris Ranger XD 1500 is Upfit’s first compatible vehicle. More models will become available after launch, which is expected to happen early in 2026.
