What We Love and Hate About the 2024 Can-Am Maverick X3 DS

The good, the bad, and the ugly about the cheapest Maverick X3!

The world’s focused on the all-new Can-Am Maverick R with its insane 240-horsepower turbocharged triple, but we thought we’d poke around in the shallow end of the Maverick X3 pool to see what, if anything, it still has to offer. The 2024 Can-Am Maverick X3 DS Turbo is the cheapest X3 you can buy. It’s smaller, has less power, basic shocks, and relatively meager suspension travel compared to the range-topping R. It’s also a stack of fun. And at less than $22,000, it won’t break the bank.

That price gets you a ripping 900cc turbocharged triple with 135 horsepower, and while that kind of output won’t win any accolades these days, it’s more than enough to huck the DS around. That’s in part because this thing is tiny, especially when compared to mammoths like the Maverick R and Polaris RZR Pro R. It’s just 64 inches wide with a 102-inch wheelbase, and it weighs in at 1,546 lbs dry, according to Can-Am. Those figures mean the engine doesn’t have much mass to move around, making it plenty fun. No, you don’t get a fancy screen or piggyback shocks. You don’t even get a roof. But if you’re looking for a lot of capability for not much coin, the DS Turbo is where it’s at. Check out the full video below more of what we love and hate about the machine.
