The Baja 1000 wrapped up in November, with legend Wayne Matlock piloting a brand-new, untested 2022 Polaris RZR Pro R to third in the Pro UTV Open class. Matlock managed that even while suffering three broken shocks over the course of the race.

But how and when he got to Ensenada is more or less immaterial. This video shows the Baja was an absolute torture test for the new rig, which sounds like glory personified as it flies across the whoops at full chat.

It may look familiar to Polaris fans, but the Pro R bears little resemblance to anything else in the Polaris lineup under the bodywork.Matlock Racing

We needn’t remind you that the Pro R is the first mass-produced UTV with a four-cylinder engine, and in stock naturally aspirated form it spits out an insane 225 hp. Matlock’s rig no doubt had a good few more ponies than that. Even more impressive than the sound is the poise with which the rig flies across the peninsula’s famous whoops. The body of the rig barely flinches as the rig pounds down the course, which is amazing for such a small vehicle.
