What’s It Like Ranching in Australia?

tl;dr: Hard, but it helps to have a Can-Am Defender…

Round ’em up, rawhide optional: A Can-Am Defender rounds up livestock near Tamworth, New South Wales, Australia.Can-Am

What’s it like earning a living from the land in southeast Australia? It starts with droughts, floods, and 90-degree temps in summer, which obviously happens in December for our neighbors down under. Fun fact? They also get snow once in a while. Did we mention the invasive species?

Needless to say, the farmers and ranchers of Tamworth, New South Wales, have a lot on their plate. This short from Can-Am is about farmers and ranchers in Australia and the role the Can-Am Defender plays in their lives and livelihoods. Turns out UTVs are just the thing for hauling feed over narrow trails and dust-choked horizons. It’s familiar-looking territory for anyone who hails from Oklahoma, lower Kansas, and possibly Wyoming in summer.

Jaded types might file this away as simple advertising or promotional materials. But we think it’s nice that Can-Am gave some hard-working Australian farmers and ranchers 8:14 minutes of fame and recognition. It’s not an easy life they’ve chosen. Tamworth is known for its country music, but also for its agriculture. Some of the farms date to 1929, with successive generations of headstrong boys and girls committed to keeping the land in their family. Plus, one of the kids tells a funny story about mistakenly putting diesel in a Defender by accident. It does a fine job of telling their story first, with the expected tie-in of Can-Am rigs and quality.

Check it out.
