Look Inside a Polaris RZR Pro R Engine

A blown-up 2022 Polaris RZR Pro R 4 gives us a look inside the four-cylinder mill.

Well, that sure didn’t take long. It hasn’t been much more than a month since SXSBlog unveiled its 2022 Polaris RZR Pro R 4 Ultimate Launch Edition on its YouTube channel. In that time, the crew have hucked it through the frozen Michigan woods, mobbed out to Imperial Sand Dunes and jumped it, and spun wild cyclones on a frozen Michigan river.

But that last feat proved to be a stunt too far for the 225 hp Polaris, as the centrifugal force of the spins pulled oil away from the pickup, starving the bearings, and ruining the rig’s inline four-cylinder engine. It’s a shame, as the mill wears a December 2021 date code, meaning it lived barely two and half months before locking up. To be fair to Polaris, though, this failure appears to have been a case of pure operator error. Or at least, operator over exuberance.

The culprit—or, more accurately, one of the culprits—a spun rod bearing. Damage beyond that appeared to be minimal.SXS Blog

The good news is that the dudes from SXSBlog are taking this as an opportunity to build the engine back up to be stouter than stock, and figure out ways to pull more power out of it in the meantime. Luckily, the damage appears to have been limited to rod bearings, as everything else inside the engine still looks super clean.

Stay tuned to see what else SXSBlog has in store for the big rig.
