SXSBlog is kicking the year off with a fleet of new, bone-stock rec-ute rigs. The crew purchased a 2023 Yamaha Wolverine RMAX4 1000 LE, a 2023 Polaris General XP 4 1000, and a 2023 Can-Am Commander Max XT-P. And, because they are SXSBlog, they test the machines’ mettle by immediately turning hot laps on their makeshift track, then seeing how well each machine jumps.

Rec-ute machines shouldn’t be capable of jumping this well, but here we are.SXSBlog

We’ll save the results of the hot laps and jumps for the video, but their conclusions on how each machine is built and handles aren’t far off our own. The Yamaha wins for fit and finish and overall quality, while the Can-Am gets high marks for its chassis and handling but loses points for interior quality and fit and finish. The General got top honors for engine note, but lost out to the Can-Am in the handling department.

Short wheelbase, weight up high, nose-down on reentry. The Yamaha RMAX left a little to be desired.SXSBlog

The crew rightly points out that the RMAX probably isn’t the machine to go duning in, but we’re excited to see how they find it on a technical, rocky trail. We came away impressed with its abilities in Moab, so we’re interested to see if their assessment matches ours.
