The dudes at SXSBlog are following up this winter’s cheap snowmobile challenge with something for the ATV crowd: a $1,500-budget cheap quad challenge. In the first episode, we get a rundown of the rules and the quads the crew managed to snag for the event. If nothing else, it’s an object lesson in the silly prices used ATVs are commanding right now.
Only Doug and Leo managed to come in under the $1,500 budget, with Doug at $760 for a Yamaha Grizzly 600 and Leo at $1,000 for a two-stroke Polaris Scrambler 400 4x4. Everyone else was at the $1,500 limit before making any repairs whatsoever.
What did they get for that? In a word, heaps. Somehow Doug and Leo, the only two who spent less than budget, managed to come away with ATVs that appear to have any life left, though at some point Doug’s caught fire, leaving a big swath of blackened bodywork.
So things are off to an inauspicious start. Check out the video above, and then follow along to see how the calamities unfold.
