Yamaha Unveils RMAX 1000 AdventuRMAX Concept

Take adventure to the max with these overlanding-focused UTVs.

Yamaha unveiled its latest concept UTV this week, via its Yamaha Live Stream, aptly dubbed the “AdventuRMAX.” By utilizing its already proven Wolverine RMAX2 and RMAX4 1000 platforms, the engineers at Yamaha Outdoors were able to craft an overlanding-style side-by-side into reality. The focus was UTV-based extended trips into the outdoors without the need to return to a base camp.

Each RMAX model was upgraded with bolt-on parts from industry leaders like Warn, Rigid, and Rugged Radios. The RMAX2 saw larger 32-inch GBC Terra Master tires, Fuel beadlock wheels, and a host of trail-tackling upgrades. Despite the larger-diameter tires, and additional weight, we’re told Yamaha stuck with the factory suspension without issue.

Yamaha’s slightly larger RMAX4 was crafted into a support rig, or pack mule, as they called it. The aft section of the side-by-side was custom modified by removing the bed and rear seats to make a trophy-truck-style cargo area. Larger 30-inch tall tires, a full spread of skid plates, and a host of onboard maintenance systems like air, power, and communications were also added to make one spectacular-looking rig capable of unassisted remote exploration.

The crew at Yamaha Outdoors is currently looking for fun and exciting places to take these new concept vehicles for extended adventure trip testing. Their first test was Windrock OHV Park just outside Oliver Springs, Tennessee, where they spent several nights tackling the terrain. We suspect they’ll be spoiled for choice as they start to travel west in search of longer routes.

Overlanding exploded in popularity in the 2010s and we’re excited to see how the UTV market revolutionizes this form of adventure. We’ll be watching closely as Yamaha continues to test its AdventuRMAX concept vehicles and hope to join it on its mission to find the ultimate UTV overlanding trails.
