Overlanding is a term used by adventure seekers who like to traverse vast expanses of land usually in very capable four wheel drive vehicles. UTV Drivers are starting to take part in the overlanding experience, now that our machines are getting larger and more aftermarket companies are stepping into the game. We cruised the recent Off Road Expo, powered by General Tire in Pomona, California and noticed a bunch of new products that would allow you to take your UTV on a great overland adventure. Here they are.

Cognito Cargo Rack

Along with a nice sturdy roll cage and roof rack shown in our lead photo, Cognito Motorsports has built a handy rack that replaces the rear seats of a Polaris RZR-4 using the stock bases. Using the rack, you can carry 22’ Ridgid totes (not included) or similar sized coolers/boxes for $379 using 2 supplied MAC ratcheting tie downs. The $269 gas can mounting kit, comes with two 5 gallon cans plus the mounting components to mount them to the carrier basket, can be padlocked to the top clamp. Not shown, is a spare rear axle carrier that mounts to the basket and is adjustable for stock width or a long travel axles. Price for the axle carrier is $99 and it only works with basket. Everything rides in a safe, low center of gravity location. Contact: Cognito Motorsports at (866) 426-4648.UTV Driver

Great radio communications in and out of your UTV is always important. Most 50 watt VHF systems, like you can get from PCI (starting at $340), Rugged Radios and others can reach clearly 25-50 miles from each other. Some lower cost $40-$50, 5 watt units will connect you and others several miles away. See https://www.pciraceradios.comUTV Driver

Protection

For average trail riding your stock skid plates are fine. However, for extreme expeditions like in Moab or the Rubicon Trail, your underside needs extra protection. It’s made to work with a small Coleman or Camp Chef two or three burner stove. The wind block is made from fireproof Nomex so it’s safe to close up to trap more heat for slow cooking.
